French Onion Beef and Noodles

A comforting dish featuring tender beef, caramelized onions, and egg noodles in a rich French onion-inspired sauce.

For the Crust:

  • 1 lb beef sirloin, thinly sliced
  • 2 large yellow onions, thinly sliced
  • 8 oz egg noodles
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 4 cups beef broth
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp thyme
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 cup shredded Gruyère cheese
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

1. Prepare the Crust:

  1. In a large skillet, melt butter with olive oil over medium heat. Add onions and cook until caramelized, about 15 minutes.
  2. Add garlic and beef slices to the skillet. Cook until beef is browned, about 5 minutes.
  3. Stir in beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, and bay leaf. Simmer for 10 minutes.
  4. Meanwhile, cook egg noodles according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  5. Remove bay leaf from the beef mixture. Add cooked noodles to the skillet and toss to combine.
  6. Sprinkle Gruyère cheese over the top and cover until cheese melts, about 2 minutes.
