Sizzling Chinese Pepper Steak with Onions

A savory and slightly spicy Chinese-inspired stir-fry with tender beef, crisp onions, and a rich black pepper sauce.

For the Crust:

  • 1 lb flank steak, thinly sliced
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tsp freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp sesame oil

Instructions

1. Prepare the Crust:

  1. In a bowl, mix sliced steak with soy sauce, oyster sauce, cornstarch, and black pepper. Let marinate for 10 minutes.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a wok or large skillet over high heat. Add garlic and stir-fry for 10 seconds until fragrant.
  3. Add marinated steak and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until browned. Remove from the wok and set aside.
  4. In the same wok, add onions and stir-fry for 2 minutes until slightly softened. Return the steak to the wok.
  5. Pour in beef broth and sugar. Stir well and cook for another 2 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  6. Drizzle with sesame oil, toss to combine, and serve hot over rice.
