Delicious Hot Chocolate Poke Cake

A moist chocolate cake soaked with rich hot chocolate sauce, topped with fluffy whipped cream and marshmallows for the ultimate cozy dessert.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Crust:

  • 1 box chocolate cake mix (plus required ingredients: eggs, oil, water)
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup hot chocolate mix
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups whipped topping
  • 1/2 cup mini marshmallows
  • Chocolate shavings for garnish

Instructions

1. Prepare the Crust:

  1. Prepare chocolate cake according to package directions in a 9×13 inch pan. Let cool for 15 minutes.
  2. While cake cools, make hot chocolate sauce: whisk milk, sugar, cocoa powder, and hot chocolate mix in saucepan over medium heat until smooth and slightly thickened. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla.
  3. Use the handle of a wooden spoon to poke holes all over the warm cake. Slowly pour hot chocolate sauce over cake, allowing it to seep into holes.
  4. Refrigerate cake for at least 2 hours to set. Spread whipped topping over chilled cake, then top with marshmallows and chocolate shavings before serving.
