Classic Boston Cream Pie Slice

A decadent dessert featuring layers of sponge cake, rich custard, and glossy chocolate ganache.

For the Crust:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups vanilla custard or pastry cream
  • 4 oz semi-sweet chocolate
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream

Instructions

1. Prepare the Crust:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. Whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl. In another bowl, beat eggs and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Heat milk and butter until warm. Gradually add dry ingredients to egg mixture, alternating with warm milk. Stir in vanilla.
  4. Pour batter into prepared pan. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden. Cool completely.
  5. Slice cake horizontally into two layers. Spread custard evenly on bottom layer, then top with second layer.
  6. Melt chocolate with heavy cream over low heat, stirring until smooth. Pour ganache over cake, letting it drip down sides. Chill before serving.
