Chocolate Earthquake Cake – The Dessert That Shakes Up Your Taste Buds!

A decadent chocolate cake with a gooey cream cheese and coconut filling that creates a delicious ‘earthquake’ effect when baked.

For the Crust:

  • 1 box chocolate cake mix
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 3 large eggs
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 3 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 cup shredded coconut
  • 1 cup chopped pecans

Instructions

1. Prepare the Crust:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, prepare the cake mix with water, oil, and eggs according to package instructions. Pour the batter into the prepared pan.
  3. In another bowl, beat the cream cheese, melted butter, and powdered sugar until smooth. Drop spoonfuls of this mixture over the cake batter.
  4. Sprinkle shredded coconut and chopped pecans evenly over the top.
  5. Bake for 40-45 minutes or until the cake is set but still slightly jiggly in the center.
  6. Allow to cool for at least 20 minutes before serving. The cake will have a cracked, ‘earthquake’ appearance.
