Chocolate Custard Cake

For the Crust:

  • 4 large eggs, separated
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 2 cups milk, lukewarm
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

1. Prepare the Crust:

  1. Preheat oven to 325°F (160°C). Grease an 8-inch square baking dish.
  2. In a bowl, whisk egg yolks with sugar until pale. Stir in melted butter, vanilla, flour, cocoa powder, and salt until smooth.
  3. Gradually add milk, mixing until combined (batter will be thin).
  4. In a separate bowl, beat egg whites until stiff peaks form. Gently fold into chocolate batter.
  5. Pour into prepared dish and bake for 50-60 minutes, until top is set and center jiggles slightly.
  6. Let cool completely. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
